CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team fell to 5-3 overall on the season with a 7-0 loss at home to the Campbell Fighting Camels on Wednesday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
 
The Chanticleers lost the doubles point for the first time in the spring season.
 
Campbell took wins on each of the top two courts to pick up the point and give the visitors a 1-0 match lead.
 
On court No. 3, the Chants' team of Neil O'Connor and Lucas Wayenburg were in a hard-fought battle with Campbell's Noe Macquart and Gustavs Lutstins at 5-4 when the doubles point was clinched.
 
Campbell quickly extended its match lead to 4-0 quickly with three straight-set wins on courts 1-3 to pick up the win.
 
However, refusing to quit, the Chanticleers battled on courts 4-6, taking two matches to the 10-point tiebreakers.
 
CCU's Guilherme Toresan battled back from a 6-4 first-set loss on court No. 4, to knot the match up with a 6-4 win in the second set. In the 10-point tiebreaker, Toresan was unable to defeat the Camel's Benjamin Maes to drop the tough bout.
 
On court No. 5, O'Connor won set one 7-6 (7-4) but fell in another tiebreaker in set two at 7-6 (7-5) to even the match up at one set apiece. In the deciding 10-point tiebreaker, Campbell's Leon Petko was able to hold off O'Connor 10-7 to earn the win.
 
The Chanticleers will have a quick turnaround, as they will be back in action on the road on Friday, Feb. 24, at UNCG. The first serve is set for 2 p.m. ET.
