MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team finished the 2023 General Hackler Championship in 12th place after shooting a 11-over 299 in Tuesday's final round. CCU's final three-round total at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club was a 21-over 885 (300-286-299).
The highlight of the tournament for the Chants was a hole-in-one by
Owen Kim on the par-3, 12th hole, which was his third hole of the day. It was the lone ace in the Hackler this season and Kim's first ace with the Chanticleers.
The Chants top finisher was
Seth Taylor, as the senior finished tied for 31st with a one-over 217 (73-71-73). His 4.50 par-5 scoring average was tied for 18th, while his 4.07 par-4 scoring average was 21st.
Tyler Gray finished tied for 39th after carding a three-over 219 (76-69-74).
Trey Crenshaw shot a seven-over 223 (74-73-76) to finish tied for 58th, while
Garrett Cooper shot a 13-over 229 (77-73-79) to finish tied for 75th, and Kim finished tied for 80th with a 16-over 232 (78-78-76).
The Chanticleers also had five players in the event participating as individuals.
Connor Newton led that group with a three-over 216 (74-69-76) to finish tied for 39th.
Alex van Wyk (73-74-80) and
Connor Bennink (75-76-76) tied for 66th after each carded a 11-over 227 (73-74-80).
Holden Grigg finished 79th with a 15-over 231 (77-78-76) and
Trace McDonald finished tied for 80th with a 16-over 232 (73-85-74).

East Tennessee (-24, 840) started the final round in second place, but came storming back with a four-under 284 in Tuesday's final round to overtake Virginia (-18, 846) and win the event by six strokes. Auburn (-15, 849), the reigning Hackler champions, finished third this season, with Louisville (-14, 850) and Kent State (-14, 850) finishing tied for fourth.
NC State (-9, 855) finished sixth, followed by Liberty (-8, 856), Duke (-1, 863), South Carolina (+5, 869), and Furman (+6, 870).
East Carolina (+18, 882) finished just three strokes in front of the Chants (+21, 885), with North Florida (+22, 886) and Charlotte (+28, 892) rounding out the field.
The Chants will be back in action March 26-27 at the Seahawk Intercollegiate hosted by UNCW at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
