CONWAY, S.C. – Behind a total team effort, the Coastal Carolina men's tennis team improved to 7-2 overall on the season with a 7-0 shutout-win over North Carolina Central on Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex in Conway, S.C.
 
The lone match of the day that the Chanticleers dropped was the first one, as the NCCU Eagles' team of Sebastion Pino and Oliver Saarinen defeated Coastal's Carlos Berna Ruiz and Steve Mundt in doubles play 6-2 on court No. 1.
 
However, the Chants would rebound and take the next two doubles bouts by way of an easy 6-1 win from the team of Guilherme Toresan and Lucas Wayenburg on court No. 3 and a 6-4 victory on court No. 2 from the pair of Maj Tomac and Ryuya Ata to secure the doubles point.
 
With the 1-0 match lead, the Chants quickly took control in singles play, as true freshman Rivers Cahill picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over LaQuon Gilchrist on court No. 6 to give the home team a 2-0 match lead.
 
CCU's Neil O'Connor followed with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Neiman Sneed of NCCU on court No. 5, before Ata secured the match win for the Chants with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set win on court No. 4 over Kareem Abdul Hakim.
 
With the match already decided, the Chants' Wayenburg battled back from a first-set loss to take the next two sets in dominant fashion and the match at 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 on court No. 2, while Berna Ruiz sealed the 7-0 sweep with a 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10) tiebreaker win on court No. 1.
 
The Chanticleers have a quick turnaround, as CCU will host Longwood tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET.
