Chants Push Stetson to the End in a 4-3 Road Defeat

Men’s tennis team will return home to host SCAD on Saturday
DELAND, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team pushed Stetson to the very end on Wednesday afternoon, as the Chanticleers fell to the Hatters 4-3 in a very tight match that went down to a third-set tiebreaker in the final singles match in DeLand, Fla.
The match of the day came in singles play on court No. 2, as CCU's Lucas Wayenburg and Stetson's Lucas Olivier went back-and-forth with the match score tied at 3-3.
Wayenburg bounced back from a first-set 6-3 loss to take the second set from Olivier at 7-6. The third and final set would go to a tiebreaker, as Olivier was able to hold on for the 7-6 third-set victory to win his match 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 and helped the Hatters escape with a 3-2 match win.
In doubles play, the Hatters picked up wins on courts No. 1 and 2 to steal the doubles point and an early 1-0 match lead from the Chanticleers.
CCU's duo of Wayenburg and Steve Mundt fell on court No. 2 to Stetson's Ervin Harris Eminefendic and Juan Jose Rodriguez Garceran 6-1, while the team of Carlos Berna Ruiz and Maj Tomac was edged 7-5 on court No. 1 by Olivier and Marc Saura.
On court No. 3, the pair of Guilherme Toresan and Neil O'Connor led the home team's team of Alexandre Hillhouse and Sven Theirgard 6-5 when the point was decided on the other two courts.
Down 1-0 in the match, the Chants' Tomaj won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 over Eminefendic on court No. 3 to tie the match up at 1-1 before teammate Ryuya Ata earned a 6-1, 7-5 win over Rodriguez Garceran on court No. 4 to put the Chants on top 2-1.
After the Chants pushed their match lead out to 3-1 on a 6-2, 7-6 win on court No. 5 by Toresan, the Hatters were able to pick up a pair of three-set wins on courts No. 6 and 1 to knot the match score up at 3-3 with one bout to play on court No. 2.
The Chanticleers (8-4) will return home to host SCAD on Saturday, March 11, at 3 p.m. ET before returning to the road to face off with No. 14 Wake Forest on Sunday, March 12, at 3 p.m. ET.
