MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team shot a one-over 289 in Thursday's Battle of the Beaches against UNCW, but the Seahawks shot one stroke better with an even-par 288 to pull out a one-stroke victory over the Chants at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
The match was close for all 18 holes with UNCW leading at the turn with a 3-under 141 and CCU just three strokes back at even-par 144.
Seth Taylor led CCU with a two-under 70, followed by
Owen Kim's one-under 71. The duo finished second and third in the individual standings. Taylor was tied for the team-lead in par-3 scoring at 3.00 and was second in birdies with five.
Garrett Cooper shot a two-over 74 to finish tied for sixth, along with teammate
Trey Crenshaw who also finished two-over. Cooper led the field with 14 pars.
Alex van Wyk played as an individual and shot a four-over 76, while
Connor Newton finished the event with a six-over 78. Wyk was second in pars on the team for the day with 12 over the 18 holes of play.
The Chants will not have a lot of time off as they will host the 2023 General Hackler Championship, March 13-14, back at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
