Women’s Tennis Pushes No. 31 ODU in 5-2 Loss

Chants will be back in action at home tomorrow versus JMU at 10 a.m. ET

CONWAY, S.C.  – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team pushed the No. 31 nationally-ranked Old Dominion Monarchs in a 5-2 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex in Conway, S.C.

With the loss, CCU moved to 15-6 overall and 7-2 in league play, while the win pushed Old Dominion to 13-4 overall and 8-0 in conference action.

What has been their calling card all season long, the Chanticleers won the doubles point with wins on courts No. 2 and 3.

The pair of Tatum Burger and Lilie Steryous opened the scoring with a 6-3 win over ODU's Alexandra Viktorovich and Allison Isaacs on court No. 2.

After ODU took the win on court No. 1, the team of Jesse Hollins and Victoire De Samucewicz defeated the Monarchs' pair of Alesya Yakubovich and Shahar Biran 6-4 on court No. 3 to give the home-standing Chants the 1-0 match lead.

However, the lead did not last long as the Monarchs picked up three quick wins in singles play on courts No. 5, 2, and 3, all in straight sets, to pull in front of the Chants at 3-1.

Refusing to retire, the Chants' Hollins posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Yakubovich on court No. 4 to cut the nationally-ranked Monarchs match lead to 3-2 with two matches in progress.

However, the next two contests went in favor of the visitors, as ODU's Tatsiana Sasnouskaya held off CCU's De Samucewicz 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 on court No. 1, while the fellow teammate Isaacs defeated the Chants' Steryous in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to secure the 5-2 road win.

Coastal will remain at home to host James Madison in Sun Belt Conference play tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET.
