No. 5/6 Coastal and No. 2 Wake Forest Meet in Top-10 Matchup

Chants and Demon Deacons will play Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET

CONWAY, S.C. – A top-10 showdown will take place at David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Tuesday night, as the No. 5/6 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will hit the road to take on No. 2 Wake Forest in a midweek non-conference matchup.
 
The game will be carried live on the ACC Network, ESPN+, and WRNN Hot Talk 99.5 FM.

ABOUT THE CHANTS
• Coastal Carolina is 26-12 overall and 13-5 in Sun Belt Conference play this year.
• Coastal sits alone atop the Sun Belt Conference regular-season standings at 13-5, one game in front of Southern Miss (11-7).
• CCU has won 12 of its last 17 games and is coming off a 2-1 series win at home over then-No. 23/24 Southern Miss at home last weekend (April 21-23).
• The Chants are 9-5 on the road this season, including wins at No. 13 North Carolina (March 28) and at No. 14 Campbell (April 11) in midweek play.
• As a team, the Chants are hitting .321 overall, which leads the Sun Belt and ranks 11th nationally, as nine different players are hitting over .300 on the season.
• The offense leads the Sun Belt Conference in eight offensive statistical categories - runs (385), scoring (10.1), batting average (.318), hits (434), on-base percentage (.431), slugging percentage (.562), doubles (98), and hit-by-pitch (89).
• CCU's pitching staff has struck out 416 batters compared to just 191 walks on the year and leads the Sun Belt with an average of 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings, which also ranks ninth nationally.
 
ABOUT THE WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS
• Wake Forest enters the home contest on Tuesday night at 34-6 overall and is 16-4 in Atlantic Coastal Conference play.
• The Demon Deacons have won eight of their last 10 games and are 21-1 at home at David F. Couch Ballpark this season with the lone loss coming in ACC play to Notre Dame on March 19.
• Wake Forest started the season at 13-0 but suffered its first loss of the season to the Chanticleers, 13-11, on March 7 in Conway, S.C.
• The Demon Deacons' offense is hitting .300 on the season and has hit 74 home runs and is averaging 9.2 runs per game on the year, which ranks seventh in all of NCAA Division I baseball.
• The Wake Forest pitching staff has been dominant this season, as the pitchers lead the nation with a 2.45 ERA, are first in all of NCAA in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 4.66, and rank second nationally with 466 strikeouts on the year.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY WITH WAKE FOREST
• The Chanticleers hold a 27-15 advantage over the Demon Deacons in the all-time series, including having won nine of the last 10 meetings.
• This year, CCU defeated the Demon Deacons 13-11 in the first meeting between the two teams in Conway, S.C., back on March 7.
• Coastal and Wake Forest split the home-and-home series last season, as CCU defeated WFU 4-3 in Conway on March 8, 2022, but fell on the road at Wake Forest 8-4 on March 30, 2022.
 
RANK'EM
• For the first time this season, the Chanticleers were ranked in a national top-25 poll on March 27.
• Coastal came in at No. 19 in the D1Baseball Top 25 Rankings and at No. 28 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division I poll in that poll on March 27.
• Since then, the Chants have been in at least one national poll in each of the last five weeks.
• In the most recent polls that came out on April 24, the Chants were in all six polls - No. 5 (Perfect Game), No. 6 (D1Baseball), No. 7 (Baseball America), No. 7 (USA Today Coaches Pol), No. 9 (NCBWA), and No. 28 (Collegiate Baseball).
• The last time that the Chanticleers were ranked in the top 10 in the majority of the national polls was back in 2010, when they broke into the top 10 in three of the five polls on April 19, 2010.
• Since being ranked, the Chanticleers have gone 12-5 overall.
 
TOUGH SLEDDING
• This season, the Chanticleers have played one of the toughest schedules in all of NCAA Division I.
• The Chants have the third-toughest schedule in all of NCAA Division I baseball to date, according to the NCAA.
 
VERSUS RANKED TEAMS
• Coastal has played nine games against five nationally-ranked top-25 teams so far this season in No. 21 NC State (Feb. 22), No. 2/5 Wake Forest (March 7), No. 19 Campbell (March 14), No. 13 North Carolina (March 28), again versus No. 14 Campbell (April 10 & 11), and last weekend versus No. 23/24 Southern Miss (April 23-24).
• The Chanticleers are 6-3 versus top 25 ranked teams this season.
• Coastal suffered a 16-5 midweek home loss to then-No. 21 NC State on Feb. 22 at Springs Brooks Stadium, but since then has won each of its last three games versus ranked foes.
• CCU won a wild one by the score of 13-11 in a midweek home contest versus then-No. 2/5 Wake Forest on March 7 at Springs Brooks Stadium.
• The Chants outslugged then-No. 19 Campbell in a 12-9 win on March 14 in a game that saw a combined seven home runs leave the ballpark.
• The Chanticleers scored eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to record a 12-7 come-from-behind win on the road at No. 13 North Carolina in midweek action on March 28.
• CCU split back-to-back midweek road games at No. 14 Campbell (April 10 & 11), falling 9-4 on Monday before taking the season series with a 5-3 win on Tuesday.
• Coastal took two-of-three games at home versus No. 23/24 Southern Miss (April 21-23) in Sun Belt Conference play, outscoring the Golden Eagles 42-29 in the three games.
 
HOME RUN DERBY
• David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, N.C., could see a home run derby on Tuesday night, as both the Chanticleers and Demon Deacons love the long ball.
• The Coastal offense ranks fourth in the Sun Belt Conference and 15th nationally with 73 home runs on the year.
• The Wake Forest offense has hit 74 home runs this season, which ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 11th nationally.
 
COMMON FOES
• The Chants and Demon Deacons have played two common opponents this season in NC State and Illinois.
• Coastal went a combined 1-2 versus Illinois (1-1) and NC State (0-1).
• Wake Forest went a combined 4-0 versus Illinois (2-0) and NC State (2-0).
 
VERSUS THE TAR HEEL STATE IN 2023
• This season, the Chanticleers have fared well against teams from the Tar Heel State.
• The Chanticleers are 6-2 overall versus schools from the state of North Carolina, including four wins over nationally-ranked foes.
• CCU suffered a loss to NC State (Feb. 22), but since defeated Davidson (March 3-5) in three games, Wake Forest (March 7), Campbell (March 14), North Carolina (March 28), and Campbell (April 11) again.
 
VERSUS THE ACC
• Entering Tuesday's tilt, Coastal is 2-2 versus the ACC this season with a 16-4 loss to NC State (Feb. 22), a 13-11 win over Wake Forest (March 7), a 12-7 victory at North Carolina (March 28), and a 16-6 defeat at Clemson (April 4).
• The Chants are also scheduled to play one more game versus Clemson (May 10) and one more contest with North Carolina (May 16) later this season.
 
OUTSIDE OF THE BELT
• This season, the Chanticleers are 13-7 overall in non-conference play.
• The Chants have two midweek wins over ranked foes Campbell (March 14 and April 11), and one each over ranked opponents Wake Forest (March 7) and North Carolina (March 28), as well as a three-game series sweep over Davidson (March 3-5) and a series win over Creighton (Feb. 24-26).
• CCU and Illinois (March 10 & 11) also split a series 1-1, which saw the rubber match washed out.
 
MIDWEEK MEETINGS
• This season, the Chans are 5-4 this season in midweek action and 2-3 in those games played on the road.
• The Chants have however defeated multiple ranked teams on the road in No. 13 North Carolina (March 28) and No. 14 Campbell (April 11).
 
ONE AND DONE
• This season, the Chanticleers have not lost two games to the same team all season long.
• Coastal's 12 losses have come to 12 different teams with one loss each to VCU (Feb. 19), No. 21 NC State (Feb. 22), Creighton (Feb. 26), College of Charleston (Feb. 28), Illinois (March 11), James Madison (March 18), Texas State (March 25), Clemson (April 4), Georgia Southern (April 7), No. 14 Campbell (April 10), Old Dominion (April 14), and No. 23/24 Southern Miss (April 23).
