Chants Suffer Shutout Loss to No.25 Louisiana on Friday

Montoya recorded the only hit of the game

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (33-16, 9-10 Sun Belt) was overpowered by the No. 25 nationally-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (37-13, 17-2 Sun Belt) on Friday, suffering an 11-0 shutout loss at St. John Stadium.

The Ragin' Cajuns struck first in the top of the first inning when a leadoff single, two stolen bases, a Coastal error, and a sacrifice fly drove in the first run of the contest to give LA the 1-0 lead.

Louisiana extended its lead in the top of the third inning when Alexa Langeliers and Lauren Allred struck singles to put runners on first and second base. LA's Sophie Piskos then cleared the bases with a three-run home run over the left-field wall to make the score 4-0 in favor of the visitors.

The Ragin' Cajuns kept their foot on the gas in the top of the fifth inning when Allred hammered a two-run home run to extend their lead to 6-0.

Louisiana broke open the game in the top of the sixth inning after two RBI singles, a two-run CCU error, and a one-run double added five more runs to the scoreboard to put LA up 11-0.

Graduate student Abbey Montoya prevented the no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth inning when she singled to right field, but the Ragin' Cajuns ultimately took the run-rule win at 11-0.

Raelee Brabham fell to 11-9 with the loss, giving up one run on two hits in her 2.0 innings of work in the circle.

The Chanticleers will be back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader versus No. 25 Louisiana at St. John Stadium. CCU will recognize its seniors before game one at 12:30 a.m. ET and the first pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET. The second game of the doubleheader will start approximately 30 minutes after the end of game one.
