Men’s Tennis Falls 4-0 at No. 74 Georgia Southern

Chanticleers will remain on the road next weekend at JMU and ODU

STATESBORO, Ga. – Playing their second consecutive Sun Belt Conference match in the state of Georgia on Monday afternoon, the Coastal Carolina men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 setback to the host No. 74 Georgia Southern Eagles in Statesboro, Ga.

The loss marks the third-straight defeat for the Chants, who fall to 10-8 overall and 1-3 in Sun Belt play on the season. Nationally-ranked Georgia Southern improved to 14-4 overall and 3-1 in league action with the win.

All three doubles bouts were highly-contested contests, as the two teams went toe-to-toe and shot-for-shot on all three courts.

However, the home-standing Eagles scored a 6-4 win on court No. 2 and then held on for a 7-6 victory on court No. 3 to pick up the doubles point and take the early 1-0 match lead.

When the point was decided, CCU's team of Steve Mundt and Lucas Wayenburg was tied 6-6 with the Eagles' duo of Pol del Castillo Masich and Aaron James Williams on court No. 1.

While Carlos Berna Ruiz held a 7-6, 2-1 lead on court No. 1 over Masich and Maj Tomac was on top 7-6, 0-1 on court No. 3, the Chants were unable to pick up a much-needed win as the Eagles scored wins on courts No. 2, 5, and 6 to earn the 4-0 match win.

GS won 6-0, 6-0 on court No. 6 to go up 2-0 in the match and then saw a 6-1, 6-2 win on court No. 2 extend the lead to 3-0.

A 6-2, 6-3 straight-set win on court No. 5 gave the home team the 4-0 Sun Belt Conference win.

The Chanticleers (10-8, 1-3 SBC) will look to regroup before returning to the road for a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches at James Madison (April 8) and No. 62 Old Dominion (April 9) next weekend.
