CONWAY, S.C. – No. 7/8 Coastal Carolina will return home for a four-game home stand this week starting on Tuesday night, May 2, versus the Charlotte 49ers. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.

  • Coastal Carolina is 28-14 overall and 15-6 in Sun Belt Conference play this year.
• Coastal sits alone atop the Sun Belt Conference regular-season standings at 15-6, one game in front of second place Southern Miss (14-7).
• CCU has won 14 of its last 21 games and is coming off a 2-1 series win on the road at Louisiana (April 28-30) last weekend.
• This season, the Chanticleers are 17-7 at home inside Springs Brooks Stadium, including going 3-1 in midweek play at #ThePalace.
• As a team, the Chants are hitting .313 overall, which leads the Sun Belt and ranks 16th nationally, as seven different players are hitting over .300 on the season.
• The offense leads the Sun Belt Conference in eight offensive statistical categories - runs (411), scoring (9.8), batting average (.313), on-base percentage (.422), slugging percentage (.553), doubles (104), doubles per game (2.48), and hit-by-pitch (97).
• CCU's pitching staff has struck out 453 batters compared to just 212 walks on the year and leads the Sun Belt with an average of 11.0 strikeouts per nine innings, which also ranks eighth nationally.
  • The Charlotte 49ers enter the week at 22-12 overall and 12-8 in Conference USA play on the season.
• The 49ers are limping into Conway, S.C., as they have lost each of their last four games and six of their last 10 games.
• Charlotte has struggled on the road this year, as they are just 7-11 away from the Queen City.
• The 49ers' offense has struggled this season, as they are hitting just .253 overall on the season, which ranks 254th nationally.
• However, the 49ers have hit a total of 68 home runs this year, which ranks second in C-USA and 37th nationally.
• The Charlotte pitching staff has recorded five shutout wins this season, which ranks in the top 10 in all of NCAA D1 baseball, and has posted a strikeouts per nine innings average of 10.0 on the season with 417 punch-outs.
  • Coastal Carolina and Charlotte are tied at 12-12 in the all-time series, with the two teams meeting just two times in the 21st century.
• The Chants defeated the 49ers 15-6 in Conway, S.C., in 2020 and most recently lost to the 49ers 11-3 on the road in Charlotte, N.C., in 2022.
• Before the meeting in 2020 at Springs Brooks Stadium, the two teams had not met since 1994 in a home-and-home midweek series.
  • For the first time this season, the Chanticleers were ranked in a national top-25 poll on March 27.
• Coastal came in at No. 19 in the D1Baseball Top 25 Rankings and at No. 28 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division I poll in that poll on March 27.
• Since then, the Chants have been in at least one national poll in each of the last six weeks.
• In the most recent polls that came out on May 1, the Chants were in all six polls - No. 7 (Perfect Game), No. 7 (Baseball America), No. 8 (D1Baseball), No. 8 (USA Today Coaches Pol), No. 8 (NCBWA), and No. 20 (Collegiate Baseball).
• The last time that the Chanticleers were ranked in the top 10 in the majority of the national polls prior to this season was back in 2010 when they broke into the top 10 in three of the five polls on April 19, 2010.
• Since being ranked, the Chanticleers have gone 14-7 overall.
  • This season, the Chanticleers have played one of the toughest schedules in all of NCAA Division I.
• In fact, Chants have the toughest schedule in all of NCAA Division I baseball to date, according to the NCAA. (as of May 1)
            • Coastal has played 10 games against five nationally-ranked top-25 teams so far this season in No. 21 NC State (Feb. 22), No. 2/5 Wake Forest (March 7), No. 19 Campbell (March 14), No. 13 North Carolina (March 28), again versus No. 14 Campbell (April 10 & 11), versus No. 23/24 Southern Miss (April 23-24), and again at No. 2 Wake Forest (April 25).
• The Chanticleers are 6-4 versus top 25 ranked teams this season.
• Coastal suffered a 16-5 midweek home loss to then-No. 21 NC State on Feb. 22 at Springs Brooks Stadium, but since then has won each of its last three games versus ranked foes.
• CCU won a wild one by the score of 13-11 in a midweek home contest versus then-No. 2/5 Wake Forest on March 7 at Springs Brooks Stadium.
• The Chants outslugged then-No. 19 Campbell in a 12-9 win on March 14 in a game that saw a combined seven home runs leave the ballpark.
• The Chanticleers scored eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to record a 12-7 come-from-behind win on the road at No. 13 North Carolina in midweek action on March 28.
• CCU split back-to-back midweek road games at No. 14 Campbell (April 10 & 11), falling 9-4 on Monday before taking the season series with a 5-3 win on Tuesday.
• Coastal took two-of-three games at home versus No. 23/24 Southern Miss (April 21-23) in Sun Belt Conference play, outscoring the Golden Eagles 42-29 in the three games.
• Most recently, the Chanticleers were defeated by No. 2 Wake Forest (April 25) 11-1 in seven innings in Winston-Salem, N.C., in midweek non-conference action.
  • The Chanticleers rank in the top 10 in RPI in games played through April 30, which is tops in the Sun Belt.
• Coastal has the seventh-best RPI according to Warren Nolan, NCAA, and Boyd's World.
  • The Chants and 49ers have played three common opponents this season in Clemson, North Carolina, and Old Dominion.
• Coastal is 3-2 versus the three common foes with a win at North Carolina and two wins at Old Dominion.
• The 49ers are 1-4 versus the same three opponents, with the lone win coming versus ODU in a series split at 1-1.
            • This season, the Chanticleers have not lost two games to the same team all season long.
• CCU's 14 losses have come to 13 different teams with one loss each to VCU (Feb. 19), No. 21 NC State (Feb. 22), Creighton (Feb. 26), College of Charleston (Feb. 28), Illinois (March 11), James Madison (March 18), Texas State (March 25), Clemson (April 4), Georgia Southern (April 7), No. 14 Campbell (April 10), Old Dominion (April 14), No. 23/24 Southern Miss (April 23), No. 2 Wake Forest (April 25), and Louisiana (April 28).
  • This season, the Chanticleers have fared well against teams from the Tar Heel State.
• The Chanticleers are 7-3 overall versus schools from the state of North Carolina, including four wins over nationally-ranked foes.
• CCU suffered a loss to NC State (Feb. 22), but since defeated Davidson (March 3-5) in three games, Wake Forest (March 7), Campbell (March 14), North Carolina (March 28), and Campbell (April 11) again.
  • This season, the Chanticleers are 13-8 overall in non-conference play.
• The Chants have two midweek wins over ranked foes Campbell (March 14 and April 11), and one each over ranked opponents Wake Forest (March 7) and North Carolina (March 28), as well as a three-game series sweep over Davidson (March 3-5) and a series win over Creighton (Feb. 24-26).
• CCU and Illinois (March 10 & 11) also split a series 1-1, which saw the rubber match washed out.
  • This season, the Chants are 5-5 this season in midweek action and 3-1 in those games played at home.
• The Chants have however defeated multiple ranked teams No. 2/5 Wake Forest (March 7), No. 19 Campbell (March 14), at No. 13 North Carolina (March 28), and at No. 14 Campbell (April 11) in midweek play.
  • This season, Coastal is scheduled to play 34 home games versus teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten, Big East, Conference USA, Atlantic 10, and the new look Sun Belt Conference.
• In fact, 14 of the Chants' first 15 games came at home at "The Palace" to start the season.
• Since 2000, the Chants have recorded 20 wins or more at home in all but four years, one of which was the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• This season, the Chants are 17-7 overall at home.
• Since Coastal joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2017, the Chants have posted a record of 138-64-2 (68.1 percent) at home at Springs Brooks Stadium.
  • With the Chanticleers' 3-2 win in 11 innings last Sunday at Louisiana (April 30), Coastal improved to a perfect 3-0 on the season in extra-inning games.
• Oddly enough, all three extra-inning wins for the Chanticleers this year have come in Sunday series finale games in Sun Belt Conference play - at Georgia State (April 2), Old Dominion (April 16), and Louisiana.
• Coastal has outscored its opponents 5-0 in extra innings this season.
