CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina's director of track & field and cross country
Sandy Fowler has announced the upcoming 2023 cross country schedule, which includes the annual Chanticleer Challenge on Sept. 29 in Conway, S.C.
"We are excited about our schedule this season, as we are going to some new locations with high-caliber competitions," stated Fowler. "This will present new challenges for our young cross country teams."
Both the men's and women's cross country teams will open up the 2023 fall season at the Buccaneer Open hosted by Charleston Southern on Friday, Sept. 1, at the CSU Cross Country Course in Charleston, S.C.
The Chanticleers will return to action two weeks later to compete in the highly-touted Adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course in Cary, N.C., on Friday, Sept. 15. NC State's women's team won the 2022 NCAA National Championship, while the men's team placed 11th nationally.
CCU's next meet will come at home on Friday, Sept. 29, as the Chanticleers will host the Chanticleer Challenge at the Hackler Golf Course. Last year's home meet was canceled due to severe inclement weather.
Two weeks later, the Chants will return to competition at the Upstate Invitational hosted by USC Upstate on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
The 2023 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships will once again take place at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve in Foley, Ala., with both the women's 5K and men's 8K events set for Saturday, Oct. 28.
Coastal will return to the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg for the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 10, while the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships will be hosted by the University of Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va.
