PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team shot a 15-under 273 in Monday's second round of the Golfweek Challenge, moving up to fifth with one round to go. The score is tied for the fourth-best single round in program history.
Today's round gave the Chants a two-round total of 22-under 554, which is a new two-round record, breaking the previous two-round score of 21-under 555 set at the 2009 Desert Shootout. Today's 273 score is tied for the fourth-best single-round record in program history.
Freshman
Jack Lee had the best round of the day for the Chants as he shot a five-under 67. He recorded five birdies, two bogeys, one eagle, and nine pars. His two-day total of seven-under 137 (70-67) has him tied for 10th heading into Tuesday's final round.
After carding a three-under 69 in the opening round,
Seth Taylor did one shot better in today's action with a four-under 68. Taylor finished the day with two birdies, one eagle, and 15 pars. He too, is tied for 10th with a seven-under 137 (69-68).
Connor Bennink had a good day as well, firing a three-under 69. He is tied for 22nd, finishing the day's action with a four-under 140 (71-69).
Garrett Cooper became the fourth CCU player to shoot in the 60s today as he finished with a three-under 69. His score moved him into a tie for 39th at two-under 142 (73-69).
Carlos Garre shot a one-over 73 and sits tied for 50th with an even-par 144 (71-74).
Ludvig Eriksson continues to lead the rest of the Chanticleers playing the event as individuals. He matched yesterday's three-under 69 with the same score today becoming the fifth Chanticleer to card a score in the 60's. He enters the final round tied for 14th with a six-under 138 (69-69).
Trace McDonald continued his solid tournament with an even-par 72. He will enter the final round tied for 39th at two-under 142 (70-72).
Brady Duval is tied for 50th with an even-par 144 after shooting consecutive rounds of 72.
Trey Crenshaw rebounded from yesterday's round of 77 with a two-under 70 in today's round and sits tied for 66th with a three-over 147 (77-70) and
Owen Kim is tied for 69th with a four-over 148 (72-76).
Only one team was over par in today's action with several low scores being carded. Washington State moved into the top spot with a 33-under 543 (272-271). Western Carolina made the big move on the day with a sizzling 22-under round. They Catamounts are only two strokes out of the top spot with a 31-under 545 (279-266). Loyola Marymount, the first-round leader, is now tied with Western Carolina for second with a 31-under 545 (271-274).
Fellow Sun Belt Conference member Arkansas State is six shots in front of the Chants at 28-under 548 (274-274) as CCU rounds out the top-five with a 22-under 554 (281-273).
Richmond leads off the second five on the leaderboard at 18-under 558 (279-279) and Jacksonville State is seventh at 14-under 562 (282-280). Wright State is just two shots back of the Gamecocks at -12-under 564 (287-277), while Stephen F. Austin is nine-under (282-285=567) and is tied with Jacksonville (282-285=567).
Charleston Southern is seven-under 569 (287-282) followed by New Orleans at three-under 573 (285-288), Eastern Kentucky's one-under 575 (291-284) and Presbyterian at seven-over 583 (291-292).
