CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team kicked off its 2023 fall season today at the CSU Invitational in Charleston, S.C. 

The Lady Chants began the day against Charleston Southern, splitting four doubles matches with the Buccaneers. The pairings of Jesse Hollins and Brooke Rogers and Katya Hersh and Isabella Weatherhead got off to a strong start, claiming their first victory of the day by scores of 6-2 and 6-3, respectively.  

Following their split with Charleston Southern, the Lady Chants then moved into singles play against College of Charleston. CCU took four of the six matches over the Cougars, with Anna Babayan, Hersh, Kata Foldeak, and Hollins recording their first singles wins of the new season. 

CCU's final opponent of the opening day was the Furman Paladins. Once again matching up in singles play, Coastal struggled to find their footing, losing six of seven matches. Freshman Rogers was the lone victor against Furman, defeating junior Alex Griffith 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the final match of the day. 

Day two of the CSU Invitational will begin tomorrow morning, with singles play starting at 8:30 a.m. ET.
