CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will return to the court as the Chants will host the Old Dominion Monarchs and Marshall Thundering Herd on Wednesday and Saturday, Jan. 10 and 13. The two games are slated to tip off at 6 p.m. ET and 1 p.m. ET, respectively.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chanticleers suffered a close 86-80 loss to the Troy Trojans last Saturday.
Makaila Cange led four Chants in double digit scoring with 17 points, while
Arin Freeman and
Deaja Richardson finished with 16 points each and
Dalanna Carter had 12 points for the Ladies in Teal. Cange finished one rebound shy of her fifth double-double as the 5-11 forward tallied nine boards, while
Alancia Ramsey and
Anaya Barney finished with seven boards apiece.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND ODU
Coastal Carolina and the Monarchs will be meeting for just the third time. The Chants and ODU are even in the all-time series at 1-1 with the two squads splitting a pair of contests last year.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND MARSHALL
Coastal Carolina and Marshall will be meeting for the ninth time dating back to January 1983. The Thundering Herd lead the all-time series at 5-3 with the Chanticleers falling 60-53 in the last meeting.
ABOUT COASTAL
Coastal Carolina enters the matchup 7-9 overall and 1-2 in Sun Belt play. The Chants are averaging 68.1 points per game while shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 27.5 percent from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal has allowed 74.1 points per game, while opponents have a 41.4 shooting percentage from the floor and 32.6 percentage from behind the three-point arc. The Chanticleers have been outrebounded by their opponents 638-622.
Coastal is paced by Richardson and Cange who average 16.0 and 13.2 points per game, respectively, while Freeman (12.3) is averaging right at 12 points per contest. Ramsey has averaged 7.8 points per contest and leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game. Cange has grabbed 118 boards for a 7.4 rebounds per game average.
ABOUT ODU
Old Dominion enters the week 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the league. As a team, the Monarchs are averaging 59.8 points per contest while shooting 35.4 percent from the floor and 29.4 percent from three-point range. Defensively, ODU has allowed 54.2 points per contest and its opponents to shoot 36.2 percent from the field and 26.0 percent from behind the arch.
En'Dya Buford is the Monarch in double digit scoring with 10.5 points per game, Jordan McLaughlin (9.8) and Kaye Clark (8.5) are scoring over eight points per contest. Old Dominion's top rebounder is Simone Cunningham with 6.7 boards per game.
ABOUT MARSHALL
The Thundering Herd enter the week at 9-5 on the year and 3-0 Sun Belt record. As a team, Marshall is averaging 84.4 points per contest while shooting 42.0 percent from the floor and 30.8 percent from three-point range. Defensively, the Herd has allowed 71.1 points per contest and its opponents to shoot just 26.3 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from behind the arch.
Roshala Scott leads four Marshall players in double digits with 21.0 points per game and followed by Abby Beeman, Breanna Campbell, and Aislynn Hayes with 17.0, 14.2, and 11.7 points per contest, respectively. Beeman is Marshall's top rebounder with 6.0 boards per game with Mahogany Matthews having grabbed 5.2 rebounds per contest.
