Men’s Soccer Secures Clean Sheet Over No. 8 James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie versus the No. 8-ranked James Madison Dukes on Saturday evening in Harrisonburg, Va.

With the tie, the Chants post a 3-7-1, 1-2-1 Sun Belt record while the Dukes move to 5-1-5, 1-0-2 Sun Belt on the season.

The Chants dominated the opening frame, holding the Dukes to just one shot while firing off four of their own. However, neither team could put a shot on-goal to hold the score at 0-0.

In the 51st  and 52nd minutes, Doug Hainer took the first shots on goal of the match, but they were both met by the hands of the JMU keeper to keep the score level at 0-0.

The Dukes pressed the CCU defense by taking four shots with three on goal over the next 15 minutes, but Coastal keeper Harrison Gough would not let anything past him to hold the score at a stalemate.

Coastal looked to get on the scoreboard in style in the 68th minute when Louis Bock headed the ball to Deryn Armstrong, who smashed a bicycle kick just over the crossbar to keep the score at 0-0.

James Madison's Yanis Lelin took the last shot of the match in the 74th minute, but Lincoln Ulrich made a goal line clearance to secure the 0-0 tie.

The Chanticleers will return to the CCU Soccer Complex on Oct. 18 to take on No. 6 Marshall at 8 p.m. ET.
