CONWAY, S.C – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to the Troy Trojans, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Complex.
With the loss, the Chants fall to 7-5-6, 3-2-4 in the Sun Belt while Troy improves to 5-9-2, 1-7-1 Sun Belt.
Julia Ziegenfuss had Coastal's first chance of the match in the 10th minute when she drove into the box but the junior pulled her shot just wide hold the score at 0-0.
Over the next 20 minutes the Trojans fired off three shots while forcing Coastal keeper Vivienne Carr to make one save, but they could not break through the CCU defense to keep the match level at 0-0.
Freshman Eleanor Ashton had CCU's most promising chance of the first frame in the 39th minute when she ripped a shot on goal that was palmed over the crossbar by the Troy keeper to end the half at 0-0.
Each team had three shots and three fouls apiece in the first frame while Troy led 5-4 in corner kicks.
The Chants looked to get on the scoreboard in the 54th minute when Stella Lawson whipped in a corner kick to the head of Carmen Gutierrez but her header was saved to keep the score at 0-0.
CCU had another corner set play chance in the 70th minute when Gutierrez put another header on frame. However, a Trojan defender made a goal line clearance to keep the Chants at bay.
The Trojan's put pressure on the Chants taking four shots while forcing a save and hitting the woodwork in the 79th and 80th minutes. Troy finally broke through when Jiselle Daniels belted in a solo goal to give the Trojans a 1-0 victory.
The Chanticleers will be back in action on Oct. 31 for their final regular season match of the season versus Georgia State at 7 p.m. ET.
