RALEIGH, N.C. – Rasheed Jones scored 17 points, while
Denzel Hines and
Jordan Battle added 14 each, but it was not enough as the Chants fell at North Carolina State 82-70.
Jones hit six of his 10 field goal attempts, including going five-of-seven on his three-point attempts. Hines hit four of his 11 field goal attempts and Battle four of his 11 as the Chants scored a season-high 70 points and shot just over 45 percent from the field.
The Pack came into the game averaging 89 points per game and the Chants held the Pack to seven points under their average. NCSU was led in scoring by Jayden Taylor's 22 points. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Trey Parker scored 13, while Dontrez Styles added 10.
CCU outrebounded NCSU 33-30 with Hines grabbing a team and game-high eight rebounds and Jones adding five.
Free throws turned out to be the difference in the game as the Pack attempted 35, making 28 for 80 percent. The Chants hit 19 of their 20 attempts for 95.0 percent, but the Pack outscored CCU by nine at the charity stripe.
The Pack led 35-33 after the opening 20 minutes led by Taylor's nine points and Huntley-Hatfield's 7. The Pack shot 52 percent from the field but missed all four of their three-point attempts. NCSU hit nine of their 13 free throws.
Jones led the Chants with 12 points, all on three-point field goals as CCU also shot 52 percent from the field. Led by Jones, the Chants hit four of their nine three-point attempts and all seven of their free throw tries.
The Chants dominated the boards, outrebounding the Wolfpack 15-9 in the opening half.
Coastal will be back home to host Jacksonville State, Sunday, Nov. 17, with the tip scheduled for 2 p.m.
