Men's Basketball Opens Bulldog Bash with Win Over IU Indy

Five Chants reach double figures in the win

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Rasheed Jones tallied 11 points as Coastal Carolina registered an 71-57 win over IU Indy in the opening game of the Bulldog Bash Friday evening at the AAMU Event Center in Huntsville, Ala.
 
Jones was one of five CCU players to reach double figures as Denzel Hines, Joshua Meo, Jordan Battle, and Colin Granger each added 10 points.
 
In what may have been CCU's most complete game of the season, the Chants finished the game shooting 56.3 percent (27-48) from the field and hit 10 of their 24 three-point attempts for 41.7 percent.
 
CCU also passed the ball around and ended the game with 15 assists on their 27 field goals. Meo led the way with five and Henry Abraham came off the bench to assist on four field goals.
 
CCU also finished the game with 35 rebounds compared to 25 for the Jags. Noah Amenhauser led the way with a game-high 10 rebounds, while Hines and Jones finished with five each.
 
The Chants, who are now 2-3 on the season, had their largest lead at 22 points as two Meo free throws but CCU up 50-28 with 18 minutes left in the game. From there CCU's defense held the Jags to a 36.5 percent (19-52) shooting performance. IU Indy entered the game averaging just over 10 three-point field goals per game, but CCU's pressure defense forced them into a seven for 27 shooting game on their three-point field goals for only 25.9 percent.
 
Paul Zilinskas scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Jags with Sean Craig scoring 13 and Jarvis Walker finishing with 10 points as IU Indy falls to 2-4 on the season.
 
The Chants held a 45-28 lead at the half led by Jones' 11 points and Hines 10. It was a hot-shooting first half for the Chants as they finished the opening 20 minutes shooting 60.7 percent (17-28) from the field and that includes knocking down eight of their 17 three-point attempts.
 
Zilinskas was a one-man scoring team in the first half for the Jags as he finished with 14 points on five of 10 shooting. Walker had seven with Craig adding five.
 
CCU held the Jags to 33.3 percent (10-30) shooting in the half and also out rebounded IU Indy 19-13.
 
The Chants will be back in action at the Bulldog Bash Saturday, Nov. 23, when they face the host Bulldogs of Alabama A&M at 5 p.m. ET.
