CLINTON, S.C. ---- Coastal Carolina women's basketball used a dominant second quarter to defeat Presbyterian, 73-46, on Sunday afternoon inside the Templeton Center. The Chanticleers outscored the Blue Hose, 22-4, in the period thanks in large part to the CCU defense forcing 13 turnovers.
With the victory, Coastal improved to 7-1 on the season while Presbyterian dropped to 1-9.
Presbyterian held an 18-17 lead after the first quarter, but Coastal eventually took a 39-22 advantage into halftime as
Alancia Ramsey and
Jaylen Ponder combined for 23 points on 9-of-9 shooting in the half. The Chanticleers outscored PC, 25-2, on points off turnovers in the opening 20 minutes of basketball.
Coastal conceded 18 points in the first period but did not allow 18 more until the 4:45 mark in the fourth period.
Ramsey and Ponder led the way for the Chants as the duo finished with a combined 30 points on 12-of-18 shooting.
Kristin Williams added 14 of her own with a 4-for-8 performance from behind the arc.
In total, CCU forced 31 turnovers and scored 34 points off them.
The Chanticleers return to action for a pair of home games next week, starting Wednesday night when they play host to UNCW at 6 p.m. ET inside the HTC Center before facing South Carolina State on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. ET.
