CONWAY ---- Coastal Carolina Athletics broke the departmental record for the fifth consecutive semester with a 3.425 GPA, the department announced Thursday.

"First and foremost, this academic accomplishment is no accident," head coach
Kevin Schnall said. "Our academic support staff, led by Megan Gregory, is highly detailed, committed, and relentless in everything they do. We are fortunate to have the right people and resources in place to ensure our team's success in the classroom.

"Around here, we have an adage: 'The way you do anything is the way you do everything.' This achievement is a direct reflection of that mindset, and we are incredibly proud of this group of players."

Six teams - baseball, men's basketball, men's track and field, women's track and field, lacrosse and softball - earned their highest GPA in program history during the fall semester.

"The achievements of our student-athletes at Coastal Carolina is evidence of our commitment to ensuring their success first in the classroom and second on their respective fields of competition," Coastal Carolina University President Michael T. Benson said. "We are so proud of these young student-athletes and how hard they work in representing our university so well."

This accomplishment marks 21-straight semesters of a 3.0 or better departmental GPA.

"This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our student-athletes in the classroom and the exceptional leadership of Alise Svihla, along with the hard work of our Student-Athlete Academic Services team.

- 419 student-athletes earned Chauncey's Honor Roll recognition (3.0 GPA or better).
