Chants Take Down Warner

Conway, S.C. – Colin Granger scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Coastal Carolina to 75-53 win over Warner in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at the HTC Center.

It was the second double-double of the season for Granger, a 6'9" graduate student. He also had a double-double against Arkansas State in the last game. Granger, who rested for the last eight minutes, was one of two players in double figures for the Chants, who improved their record to 7-6 on the season.

In addition to Granger, Rasheed Jones, a 6'6" sophomore guard, had 17 points to go along with his nine rebounds. Guard Jordan Battle added eight points, while Denzel Hines and Naz Brown each had seven points. Joshua Meo had six points and a season-high seven assists.

"I thought we played hard, but we couldn't throw it into the ocean early," said Coastal head coach Justin Gray following the game. "We're never going to be perfect, but we played hard. I thought Colin played especially hard. He works hard and deserves to have a game like this."

Coastal never trailed after taking the lead midway through the first half. The Chants then broke it open with two big runs in the second half. The first put Coastal comfortably in front. The second, a 19-7 run over the last nine minutes, gave the Chants their biggest advantage at 75-50, before Warner scored the last three points of the game.

After a slow start, Coastal used an 11-0 run to go in front by 21-16. Jones had a couple of three-pointers in the run. Jones finished the first half with 10 points, but it was Granger's 14 points and nine rebounds that powered the Chants to a 35-27 halftime advantage.

Granger then added four more points in Coastal's 14-2 scoring spurt in the first minutes of the second half to take a commanding 16-point lead, at 47-31.

Granger, who transferred to Coastal from Western Carolina, scored all of his points from close range and was 9-of-13 from the field. Jones was 7-of-14 from the field. And as a team, Coastal finished 27-of-62 from the field (44 percent). Coastal also dominated the boards with a 55-25 advantage.

Coastal will now prepare for its Sun Belt Conference play, with back-to-back home games to begin the New Year. The Chanticleers will host Louisiana at 7 pm. Thursday (Jan. 2) and Louisiana-Monroe at 2 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 4).
