CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team closed out its three-match homestand today with a 7-0 win over the College of Charleston Cougars at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The Chants dominated right from the opening match, taking two of three in singles play from the Cougars. Seniors Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg dropped just their second doubles match of the season, losing 6-3 to CofC's Mattia Bernardi and Eddie Vo. Guilherme Toresan and Maj Tomac and Eric Tripathi and Ryuya Ata later secured the decisive victories to claim the opening doubles point, giving Coastal the early 1-0 advantage.
CCU continued their dominance in singles play, claiming all six individual matchups, with three coming in straight sets. Ata, freshman Juan Cruz Collardin and Wayenburg each recorded early victories following their second set, securing the fourth and decisive point, along with the overall win for the Chants. Tomac, Toresan and Tripathi were forced into the third set of their matchups, but ultimately prevailed by scores of 9-4, 3-2 and 6-1.
Following the homestand, the upcoming schedule for the Chants features a four-match road trip, starting with a meeting with the Charlotte 49ers in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2 P.M. ET.
