Chants Suffer Narrow 4-3 Defeat at Home to Campbell

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Campbell Fighting Camels today in a narrow 4-3 loss at the Stevens Tennis Complex. 

Coastal got off to a strong start in doubles play, taking all three matchups by scores of 6-4, 7-6 and 6-2. No. 1 doubles pairing Anna Babayan and Jesse Hollins added to their doubles win tally on the season, moving their total to four with a win over Campbell's Mariana Ossa and Mialy Ranaivo. Seniors Kata Foldeak and Cecile Morin and junior Nicole Abel and freshman Aida Maria Mitrache also continued their strong run of play, defeating CU's Lily Chitambar and Eeva Ristola and Lena Karlovcan and Veronika Prospalova to secure to doubles point and the early lead. 

In singles play, Coastal took the opening matchup with Morin defeating Prospalova 6-3, 6-3. Campbell would go on to take the following two matches in straight sets, tying the overall score at two apiece. The next two matches were split as Hollins bested Tamsin Hart 6-3, 6-3 and Foldeak dropped her decision in the third set to Chitambar. Campbell ended the day with a final set victory from Ossa over Mitrache by a score of 6-4. 

Next up for the Chants is a trip to Greensboro, N.C. as they are set to take on the UNC Greensboro Spartans next Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 1 P.M. ET.
