Chants Fall at ODU, 75-59

Ojiako picks up league-leading 16th doube-double of the season

NORFOLK, Va. – John Ojiako picked up his league-leading 16th double-double of the season with a team-high 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds as Coastal Carolina fell at Old Dominion 75-59 in Sun Belt Conference basketball action Saturday night at Chartway Arena.
 
The Chanticleers fell behind by 14 points in the opening half only to come back and even the score at 28 on two Jacob Meyer free throws with 10 seconds left in the half. ODU was able to come down and Devin Ceaser hit a three-point field goal to put the Monarchs in the lead 31-28 at the half.
 
CCU came out and took a 38-34 lead on an Ojiako lay up with 16:47 left in the game. From there it was all ODU as the Monarchs outscored CCU 41-21 the rest of the way for the final 16-point margin.
 
Meyer joined Ojiako in double-digits with 16 points, while Ojiako scored his points on six-of-seven shooting from the field as the Chants moved to 81-9 overall and 5-11 in conference action.
 
Tyrone Williams scored a career and game-high 33 points to lead the Monarchs and Ceaser came off the bench to scored 14 points as the only two Monarchs to reach double figures as ODU moved to 7-22 overall and 3-13 in conference play.
 
Neither team shot the ball well as CCU finished the game shooting 37.7 percent from the field and 22.7 percent on its three-point attempts. CCU continued its strong shooting from the free throw line, connecting only 73.7 percent (14-19).
 
ODU shot 37.1 percent from the field and 29.4 percent on its three-point field goals. ODU also hist 13 of its 21 free throws for 61.9 percent.

The difference in the game was CCU's 17 turnovers which led to 23 ODU points.
 
The Chants will complete regular-season action at home next week when they host Arkansas State on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET, and then James Madison on Friday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
