MONROE, La. – Jacob Meyer led four Chanticleers in double-digits with 18 points, but ULM held off CCU 79-75 Wednesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Sun Belt Conference action.
The Chants jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the first five minutes of the game, but Coastal only scored 13 points the rest of the first half while ULM scored 30 points over that same time span to take a 33-26 lead into the half, and while CCU battled the rest of the game, they could never catch the Warhawks in the close loss.
Kylan Blackmon scored 16 points, hitting five of his nine field goal attempts and that includes knocking down four three-point field goals.
Freshman
Braeden MacVicar scored a career-high 15 points, all coming on a career-high five three-point field goals, while
John Ojiako scored 10 points and finished with his 14th double-double after grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Chants only shot 32.3 percent (10-31) in the first half, but turned that around by shooting 57.7 percent (15-26) in the second half to finish the game shooting 43.9 percent (25-57) from the field.
CCU hit 11 of its 25 three-point field goals (44.0) which was the second-most three-point field goals next to the 12 threes CCU hit against Winthrop (12/02/23) earlier in the season.
The Chants once again struggled at the free throw line only hitting 14 of its 22 attempts for 63.6 percent.
The Warhawks were led by Nika Metskhvarishvili who scored a career and game-high 28 points, including 19 in the first half. Tyreke Locure scored 15 and Savion Gallion added 10, which all came in the second half.
The Warhawks shot 47.3 percent from the field and hit nine three-point field goals for 33.3 percent. ULM also struggled at the free throw line hitting 18-of-31 for 56.1 percent. CCU's defense held the Warhawks without a field goal for the final 4:45 of the game, but ULM managed to convert 13 free throws during that time to keep the Chants at bay.
The Chants will be off for eight days and will be back home for its next two conference games hosting Georgia Southern on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. ET, and Marshall on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. ET.
