CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team closed the Beach Chicken Brawl with a 6-0 win over George Mason and an 8-0 loss to No. 24 Boston on Sunday at St. John Stadium.
Coastal earned its seventh consecutive win in the first game of the day as the Chants got a combined three-hit shutout from
Raelee Brabham and
Kaitlin Ryan. Brabham (12-2) allowed two hits with six strikeouts and three walks in 6.0 innings before giving way to Ryan, who surrendered one hit in 1.0 inning of relief.
The Chants plated three runs with two outs in the bottom of the third as
Iyanla De Jesus singled home
Clara Hudgens for the first run of the game.
Libby Pippin walked and two more runs came home on an
Indya Smith single and subsequent throwing error.
CCU extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning when
Ally Wojciechowski scored on an error and the Chants added two more insurance runs in the fifth on an RBI single from
Maddy Jennings and an RBI groundout from
Hope McDonald.
In the second game, Boston pitcher Kasey Ricard tossed a five-inning perfect game as the Terriers plated three runs in the third inning and five in the fourth.
Abby Henderson (3-1) suffered the loss for the Chanticleers, allowing six earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout and three walks in 3.2 innings.
Georgia Hood tossed 1.1 hitless innings of relief.
The Chants will host Boston again on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. ET.
