Barthol Tabbed Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week

Coastal will play Wake Forest in top-25 midweek tilt
NEW ORLEANS – Coastal Carolina baseball sophomore infielder Blake Barthol was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the week of March 4-10, the league office announced today. This is the first weekly SBC award for Barthol and the second this year for the Chants.
Barthol had a week, he slashed .474 (9-for-19) with six home runs, a double and 13 RBIs. He also posted a 1.474 slugging percentage and a .630 on-base percentage. He scored eight times to lead the Chanticleers to a perfect 5-0 record against USC Upstate and Michigan.
Against the Spartans, Barthol hit a two-run home run to close out the scoring in a 10-run sixth inning in the series finale.
Barthol hit .583 with five homers, a double, three walks, and 11 RBIs for a 1.917 slugging percentage.
In the series opener against Michigan, the sophomore infielder tied the game at 5-5 with a grand slam to put the Chanticleers right back in the game. In game two on Saturday, Barthol hit the third pitch he saw over the left field wall to give Coastal the early lead in the bottom of the first before following with a three-run bomb as part of a seven-run third inning. In the fifth inning, the Allentown, Pa., native hit his fourth blast in two days. In the series finale, Barthol completed the home run cycle as he smashed his fifth home run of the weekend, a solo shot to even the game at 3-3 as part of the five-run third inning that put Coastal in the lead for good.
This season, Barthol is hitting .356 with nine home run, six doubles, 23 RBIs, and 25 runs scored.
No. 16 Coastal (14-2) will host the No. 6 Wake Forest Demon Deacons (12-3) on Tuesday, March 12, at 6 p.m. ET at Springs Brooks Stadium.
