Chants Downed by No. 16/22 Boston

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team saw its comeback attempt fall short as the Chants dropped an 8-6 decision to the No. 16/22 Boston Terriers on Tuesday evening at St. John Stadium.

Boston stormed to an early lead in the top of the second inning after two solo home runs, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single made the score 4-0.

The Terriers increased their lead in the top of the fourth inning after Kylie Doherty smashed a three-run triple off the right field wall and Brooke Deppiesse struck an RBI single to push Boston ahead 8-0.

The Chants began their rally when Riley Zana and Libby Pippin reached base on a single and a walk, respectively, in the bottom of the fourth inning. Indya Smith then stepped up to the plate a belted a three-run home run over the right-center field wall to cut the deficit to 8-3.

Coastal's bats then ignited as Ava Hampton and Brie Normandin crushed their first career home runs in back-to-back fashion to make it three straight homers for the Chants and pull Coastal within three runs. 8-5.

CCU kept knocking at the door in the bottom of the fourth inning after a leadoff double by Delaney Keith and two walks loaded the bases but the Terriers pitched their way out of trouble to hold the score at 8-5.

The Chants made one last comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh inning after Keith crushed a leadoff single and Zana reached on a Boston fielding error to put the tying run on the plate. Keith then added one more run for Coastal, scoring on a groundout but the Terriers were able to secure three outs to take the 8-6 victory.

Raelee Brabham fell to 12-3 on the season after giving up four runs off six hits while striking out one batter.

The Chanticleers will be back at St. John Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m. ET as they open up conference play with a three-game weekend series versus Troy.
