Coastal Opens Homestand with 15-3 Win Over Manhattan

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team returned to an even .500 this afternoon with a dominant 15-3 win over the Manhattan Jaspers at Brooks Stadium. 

The win moves CCU to 4-4 on the season. The Chants have now won two of their last three and each of their previous two home games. 

Senior Bethany Bruck opened the scoring account for Coastal with a goal just a minute into the first quarter, coming off Avery McIlwaine's sixth assist of the season. Manhattan equalized two minutes later with a goal from Emily Fiola, her second of the year. The Chants closed out the opening 15 minutes on a 4-0 run to claim a 5-1 advantage going into the second period. 

The Jaspers outscored Coastal 2-1 in second period, despite the Chants striking first 28 seconds into quarter after Devin Rybacki scored her third of the season with the assist credited to Brigid Cardillo. Manhattan would put two more on the board before the halftime break, cutting the Coastal lead to 6-3 heading into the third quarter. 

CCU shut out the Jaspers in the second half, outscoring the opposition 9-0 in the final 30 minutes. Freshman Gabrielle Beaudet started the onslaught with her third goal of the season at the 10:11 mark of the third quarter. The Chants would also get three goal contributions from Maddie Bates, two from Monica Manley, one apiece from Bruck and Alyson Mascolo and another from Beaudet. 

The Chants finished the game with 15 goals on 32 total shots, 15 on target. Leading goalscorer Sydney McClure added another goal to her season tally, moving her total to 18, while adding a season-high five assists. Bates and Manley led the Chants in scoring today with three each, as Coastal also received multi-goal efforts from Beaudet and Bruck. Nine different Chants got on the scoresheet, resulting in a commanding 15-3 win at home. 

Defensively, Coastal turned the Jaspers over 17 times, adding 15 ground balls and 16 draw controls. 

Goalkeeper Charlotte Sadler played 53 minutes of the full 60, recording seven saves on 10 shots on frame. Backup keeper Claire Martell entered the game with six minutes left in the fourth period, making one save. 

After taking down Manhattan in dominant fashion, the Chants will continue their four-game homestand against High Point on Saturday, Mar. 23 at 12 P.M. ET at Brooks Stadium.
