CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team earned a split on day three of the Chanticleer Showdown, beating Iona 1-0 before having its five-game winning streak snapped in a 6-3 loss to Oakland.

In game one, the Chanticleers and Gaels battled through a pitchers' duel that saw neither team record a hit until the fifth inning. With the score deadlocked at 0-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Libby Pippin led off the frame with a bunt single and came around to score on a throwing error that gave Coastal the lone run of the contest. 

Abby Henderson (1-0) dominated in the circle, tossing a three-hit complete-game shutout with three strikeouts and just one walk allowed to earn her first collegiate victory. Henderson surrendered just one extra-base hit and retired 12 Gaels in a row in a stretch from the first until the fifth inning.

In the second game of the day, Coastal jumped to an early 2-0 lead on a two-run first-inning homer from Iyanla De Jesus. However, Oakland plated three runs in the third and another in the fourth to move in front, 4-2. Coastal trimmed the deficit to one on an RBI groundout from Riley Zana in the bottom of the fifth, but the Golden Grizzlies answered with a solo homer and an RBI single in the top of the sixth to wrap up a 6-3 win.

Nicolette Picone (2-4) took the loss for the Chants, allowing four unearned runs on three hits with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. Kaitlin Ryan recorded her third shutout relief appearance of the season, allowing just one hit in 2.0 innings.

Coastal will conclude the Chanticleer Showdown on Sunday with matchups against Oakland at 11:15 a.m. and Yale at 1:30 p.m. ET.
