Men's Tennis Earns First Conference Win Over Georgia State

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team (6-9, 1-2 SBC) defeated the Georgia State Panthers (6-12, 1-3 SBC) today in 7-0 win at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

The Chants opened the match taking the doubles point with wins from seniors Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg and Ryuya Ata and Maj Tomac, defeating the Panthers' No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams.

CCU continued their strong run of play into singles, winning three of the first four matchups to clinch the outright, 4-1 victory. Berna Ruiz, Tomac and freshman Eric Tripathi won the second, fourth and sixth-seeded matches with Berna Ruiz and Tomac winning after the second set. Tripathi was taken into the third and final set by Georgia State's Naufal Kamaruzzaman, but ultimately prevailed by a score of 6-1.

The win today gives Coastal their first in Sun Belt Conference play, and their sixth through the opening 15 matches of the season.

CCU will complete its weekend doubleheader tomorrow at noon ET, as they take on the Georgia Southern Eagles at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
