Chants Take First-Placed Georgia Southern to the Wire in 4-3 Loss

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team (6-10, 1-3 SBC) suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat to the Georgia Southern Eagles (10-7, 4-0 SBC) today in the second half of their Sun Belt doubleheader at the Stevens Tennis Complex this weekend.

Georgia Southern took the opening double point after winning the second and third-seeded matches by scores of 7-5 and 7-6. The No. 1 seed match between Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg and the GSU's Judson Blair and Dimitris Paliouras was left unfinished at 6-6 after the Eagles had already secured the early lead.

In doubles, the Chants earned three points by winning the fourth, fifth and sixth seeded matches with the No. 6 seed Eric Tripathi being forced into a third set. Maj Tomac and Juan Cruz Collardin each wrapped up their singles win after two sets, bringing Coastal to within one point of their second straight conference win. Georgia Southern would go on to take the No. 1 singles match with Paliouras besting Ryuya Ata 6-4 in the decisive set.

CCU is back at home on Saturday, Apr. 6 against the James Madison Dukes at 12 P.M. ET at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
