Coastal Extends Winning Streak to Six with 10-8 Win Over Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team (9-4, 2-0 ASUN) defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores (7-6, 1-2 AAC) today in a 10-8 win at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex in Nashville, Tenn.

The win today gives Coastal their sixth consecutive win, including two in conference play against Lindenwood and Liberty. CCU improved to 9-4 on the season with just four games remaining in the regular season portion of the schedule prior to the start of the ASUN Conference Tournament on May 2.

Despite being outscored 6-5 in the second half and the Commodores tying the game twice in the fourth quarter, the Chants never trailed in route to their second consecutive win on the road.

Coastal opened the scoring with two goals midway through the first quarter from Sydney McClure and Abi George, as the Chants would lead 2-0 after the opening 15 minutes.

CCU outscored Vandy 3-1 in the second period with Maddie Bates and Monica Manley adding their names to the scoresheet, and McClure securing her sixth brace of the season at the 2:33 mark. Following an end-to-end first 30 minutes, the Chants took a 5-2 lead into the halftime break.

Vanderbilt cut the Coastal lead to just one out of the break after Kemper Robinson and Brooke Baker and scored two quick goals with a man advantage. Bates would end Vandy's 2-0 run with her second goal of the afternoon just before the seven-minute mark of the third period. The Commodores would go on to put one more goal on the board before the end of the quarter, trailing 6-5 heading into the final frame.

The Chants sealed the win by outscoring the Commodores 4-3 over the final 15 minutes of play. Bates completed her hat-trick, Manley secured her brace and Brigid Cardillo scored her 14th goal of the season on an open net score with just 11 seconds remaining in regulation, resulting in a 10-8 win in Nashville.

The Chants finished the day with 10 goals on 23 total attempts, 18 on frame, along with one goal coming off a free position attempt. Bates led the Chants on the scoresheet for the second straight game, recording her third hat-trick and her seventh multi-goal outing of the season. Bates has now scored nine goals in the last two games after scoring a career-high six in the win over Liberty. Leading goalscorers Manley and McClure each added a brace, moving their season totals to 27 and 25, respectively, while Cardillo, Alyson Mascolo and George each added one.

Defensively, Coastal picked up 17 ground balls, 16 draw controls and caused six turnovers. Goalkeeper Charlotte Sadler was forced to make six saves on 14 attempts on goal from the Commodores. Five Chants finished with double figures in the ground ball department with Devin Rybacki and Sydney Tornetta each finishing with three, and Cardillo, Avery Snyder and Jordan Gertz finishing with two.

Following the win over Vandy, the Chants will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the Queens (Charlotte) Royals on Saturday, Apr. 13 at 12 P.M. ET at the Queens Sports Complex.
