MOBILE, Ala. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team (8-12, 2-5 SBC) dropped to 2-5 in Sun Belt Conference play today in a 4-2 loss to the South Alabama Jaguars (9-10, 4-4 SBC) at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts in Mobile, Ala.
The doubles point went to South Alabama after the Jaguars won the first and second-seeded matchups. The third-seeded match between Rivers Cahill and Jesus Garcia and USA's Juan Accossatto and Harold van Raemdonck was left unfinished at 6-5.
In singles, the Chants won the first and sixth-seeded matches with No. 1 seed Ryuya Ata defeating South Alabama's Jack Clements 7-6 in the third set, and Eric Tripathi taking down the No. 6 seed van Raemdonck in three sets. The Jaguars won the remaining four singles matches, with CCU's No. 2 seed Carlos Berna Ruiz taking USA's Rostislav Halfinger to a third set, losing 6-1 in the decisive frame. South Alabama would go on to win 4-2 over the Chants, improving their conference record to 4-4 going into the Sun Belt Tournament next week in Rome, Ga.
CCU will close out the regular season tomorrow afternoon against the Troy Trojans at 2 P.M. ET at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy, Ala.
