Coastal Travels to Wake Forest for a Midweek Matchup

The Chants and Demon Deacons will meet for the 45th time

CONWAY, S.C. – The No. 20 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will travel to No. 14 Wake Forest in a non-conference midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 9, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.  It will be the second meeting between the two programs this season.

CCU - RHP Alexander Meckley (3-2, 6.31 ERA) vs. WF - RHP Ben Shenosky (3-2, 5.14 ERA)
 
ABOUT THE CHANTS
• Coastal Carolina enters the week 22-9 on the season and 7-5 in Sun Belt play.
• Coastal hit 57 home runs on the season with Blake Barthol leading the team and is 12th in the NCAA with 14 bombs while Zack Beach has added 12 blasts.
Sam Antonacci leads the team with a .405 batting average, 33 walks, and hit-by-a-pitch 15 times to get the offense started from the top of the lineup. He has reached base safely at least once in every game played this season.
• Defensively, the Chanticleers are third the NCAA and lead the Sun Belt Conference with 35 double plays turned.
Cameron Flukey leads the team with 48 strikeouts, has three starts on the season has given up 14 runs on 23 hits with just 14 walks.
Alexander Meckley will get the start versus the Demon Deacons is 3-2 on the year and is second on the team with 33 strikeouts.
 
ABOUT THE DEMON DEACONS
• Wake Forest enters play at 21-10 overall and 7-8 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and have won four straight games.
• The Demon Deacons opened the 2024 season as the No. 1 ranked team in the NCAA and won 11 of their first 12 games.
• The WF pitching staff has allowed 40 home runs and has struck out 370 opposing batters and issued 200 free bases. Batters are hitting just .221 against the Deacons.
• The Deacs' Chase Burns anchors the pitching staff with a 6-1 record and a 3.37 ERA. He has thrown 50.2 innings, allowing 19 runs on 31 hits with 97 strikeouts.
• Tuesday's starter Ben Shenosky is 3-2 on the year with a 5.14 ERA in 21.0 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .154 against the right-handed pitcher.
• Wake Forest is hitting .279 and has blasted 56 home runs, six triples, and 67 doubles for 237 RBIs.
• Adam Tellier (.359) and Jack Winnay (.340) lead the Demon Deacons at the plate and the only two batters hitting over .340.
• Nick Kurtz and Winnay lead Wake Forest with 11 home runs, with Winnay leading the team with 33 RBIs.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY WITH WAKE FOREST
• The Chanticleers are 28-16 overall versus Wake Forest on the diamond, with Coastal Carolina winning the last meeting 17-9 at home earlier this season.
• CCU has a 20-9 record versus the Deacs home but is 8-7 on the road at Wake Forest, it is the 45th time the two programs will meet on the diamond.
• Coastal had an eight-game winning streak against Wake Forest from March 2018 to March 2022.
• The Chants and Deacons first played in Winston Salem, N.C., in March 1982 with Wake winning 10-4 after the first eight games were played in Conway, S.C.
• Coastal is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings but is 2-2 in the last four games.
