CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team was downed 3-0 by the Elon Phoenix on Thursday night at the CCU Soccer Complex.
The Chants fall to 0-3-0 on the season while Elon remains unbeaten at 3-0-0.
Elon got off to a flying start in the fourth minute of action when Sumner Nenninger netted the first goal of the night off an assist from Scott Vatne to put the Phoenix up 1-0.
The Chants looked to bounce right back rattling off three shots over the next five minutes, but they couldn't break through the Elon backline to keep the score at 1-0.
The Phoenix put another goal on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when Victor Stromsten fizzed the ball into the box to Ryan Manna who poked the ball onto Colin Veltri. Veltri then lined up and buried the ball into the bottom left corner to make the score 2-0.
Both teams took one shot on goal during the remaining 25 minutes of the half but neither team could find the back of the net.
In the final seconds of the first frame, the Chanticleers received a red card for unsporting conduct and had to play with 10 men for the final 45 minutes of the match.
The Phoenix added to its lead in the 51st minute when Vante's corner kick found the boot of Connor Mucchetti who smashed the ball into the top of the netting to put Elon up 3-0.
Kaito Ueki and Francesco Pagano had Coastal's only chances in the second frame taking shots in the 74th and 84th minutes respectively, but both were blocked to ultimately give the Phoenix the 3-0 victory.
The Chanticleers will be back in action at the CCU Soccer Complex on Sept. 3 to take on USC Upstate at 7 p.m. ET.
