Conway, S.C. – Alancia Ramsey collected her third double-double in the last five games for Coastal Carolina, but it wasn't enough as James Madison overpowered the Chanticleers, 74-54, in a Sun Belt conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center.
Ramsey had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and
Savannah Brooks hit for 14 points in the loss, which was Coastal's first at home this season after eight wins. Coastal is now 13-4 overall and 4-3 in league play.
James Madison stayed undefeated in league play and now sits at 15-4 overall and 7-0 in the conference. Peyton McDaniel led four JMU players in double figures with 19 points. She also led the way with 14 rebounds.
Brooks kept Coastal even through the first several minutes of action, but picked up two early fouls when Coastal's star went to the bench, James Madison stretched its lead to 12-4, and then 26-12 with two minutes gone in the second quarter, and never looked back.
The Dukes were in front by 18 after three quarters and had their largest advantage of 23, at 67-44, with three minutes left in the contest.
Coastal started the game 1-of-19 from beyond the three-point line before
Emilia Tenbrock finally made a second bucket from long range. But the Chants went just 2-of-17 from the field in the quarter and fell behind by 33-21 at the half.
The Dukes took their strong inside game into the second half as well, finishing with 53 points in the paint. Coastal, in contrast, attacked from long range, but never found the mark. The Chants finished just 3-of-36 (8 percent) from three-point range, and 19-of-71 from the field in total (27 percent).
Coastal now has two road conference games – at Georgia State and at James Madison – before returning to the HTC Center to face Marshall at 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 (Weds.) and then Louisiana at 1 p.m. Feb. 1 (Sat.).
