Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Chants Fall to No. 4 West Virginia

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to the No. 4 West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday evening at the CCU Soccer Complex.
  • With the loss, Coastal falls to 1-7-0 overall and 0-4-0 in Sun Belt play.
  • The Chants were first to strike in the eighth minute when freshman Jon Almudi flicked the ball onto Loed Klaasen, who slotted it into the bottom left corner for his third goal of the season.
  • CCU threatened again in the 20th minute when Christian Cook rattled the woodwork.
  • The Mountaineers leveled the score in the 22nd minute after Coastal conceded a penalty kick, which Marcus Calderira converted to make it 1-1.
  • WVU continued to apply pressure over the next 23 minutes, forcing four saves, including a goal-line clearance.
  • At the end of the half, the Mountaineers led 10-4 in shots and 2-1 in corner kicks.
  • West Virginia took the lead in the 46th minute when Ethan Dekel Daks found the top right corner off assists from Nacho Martinez and Braedon Smith.
  • At the end of the match, WVU led 14-4 in shots and 12-1 in corner kicks.
The Chanticleers will head to Statesboro, Ga., to take on No. 11 Georgia Southern on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. ET.
