Chanticleers Wrap Up Cross Country Season At Regional Championships

EARLYSVILLE, Va. - Coastal Carolina closed out its cross country season Friday with both the women's and men's programs competing at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, highlighted by strong individual races from junior Erin McQuitty and freshman Thomas Nitz.
 
On the women's side, McQuitty led the Chanticleers with a 145th-place finish in 22:17.6 for the 6K race. McQuitty held steady throughout the course, moving up several spots after the 3K split and finishing as Coastal's top scorer. Junior Addison Laughlin was the Chanticleers' second top finisher with a time of 22:40.3 .

Megan Dolan (22:55.9) and Olivia Goeser (22:56.8) also finished in under 23 minutes, finishing 186th and 188th, as the Chanticleers placed 29th as a team with 877 points. 

The Chanticleer men placed 28th overall in the team standings with 844 points. Nitz paced Coastal Carolina, finishing 148th in 32:59.8, using a strong final 3K to climb 20 spots in the field. Fellow freshman Braxton Theel followed in 169th place at 33:21.2 after gaining 11 positions over the final split. Junior Sterling Sellier was next across the line for Coastal at 33:38.2, good for 177th place.
 
Rounding out the Chants' scoring five was freshman Jacob Barraza, who finished 184th in 33:50.8 after making a late-race push to gain 13 spots over the final 3K, and freshman Owen Mullins, who placed 198th in 34:14.8.
