MACOMB, Ill. — RaSheed Jones scored 20 points and Coastal Carolina hit 14 3-pointers to beat Western Illinois 84–64 on Friday night in the opening game of the Western Illinois MTE.
Jones went 6 of 17 from the field with four 3s and added two steals for the Chanticleers (3–2), which posted their first 20-point win on the road since 2011.
Joshua Beadle had 18 points, four assists and two steals, while
AJ Dancler scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
DaJohn Craig added 11 points off the bench, knocking down three 3-pointers as Coastal's reserves combined for 27 points.
Coastal stretched its early advantage with an 18–10 run midway through the first half, fueled by back-to-back threes from Dancler and Hill and a fast break layup from
Tristan Thompson. The Chanticleers led by as many as 14 in the first period and took a 44–36 lead into halftime after scoring 18 points in the paint and grabbing eight offensive boards.
The Chanticleers kept control with an 11–3 burst early in the second half, highlighted by threes from Jones and Craig. Coastal's lead ballooned to 30 with just over seven minutes remaining.
Coastal finished 14 of 33 from long range, assisted on 15 of its 28 made field goals and scored 26 points off 16 Leatherneck turnovers.
Reggie Hill anchored the boards with 12 rebounds, helping Coastal win the rebounding battle 40–34.
Western Illinois (1–5) was led by Francis Okwuosah and Karyiek Dixon, who each scored 16 points. The Leathernecks shot 37 percent from the floor and 3 of 17 from 3-point range.
Coastal Carolina continues tournament play Saturday against North Dakota. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

• Coastal Carolina posted its first 20-point road win since beating The Citadel by 22, 80-58, in Charleston on Dec. 6, 2011.
• The Chants snapped a three-game road losing streak dating back to last season and picked up their fourth true road win under Coach Gray.
• Coastal buried double-figure three-point field goals for the third time this season (17 vs. VUL, 12 vs. Winthrop, 14 at Western Illinois). The Chants have shot over 40 percent outside the arc each time they've made double-digit 3s.
