Women’s Basketball Welcomes Lees-McRae for Sunday Contest

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's basketball returns to the HTC Center to face Lees-McRae on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+ as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network.
 
ABOUT THE CHANTS
  • The Chants are 0-2 after falling 63-53 to Miami (OH) and 91-57 at BYU. 
  • The Chants kept things close in the first half as they trailed by three at the end of the first quarter and seven at halftime.
  • BYU blew the game open after halftime by going on a 20-0 run in the third quarter and ended the period with a 21-point advantage.
  • Kristin Williams led the scoring effort with 17, going 7-15 from the field and 3-10 from distance. .
  • Tracey Hueston finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards and 13 points, shooting 4-10 from the field and making five of her seven free-throw attempts 
  • Coastal Carolina is coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2024-25, going 23-9 (12-6 SBC) and reaching the semifinals of the Sun Belt tournament and WNIT for the first time in program history.
  • Coastal's 23 wins last season were the second-most in program history behind their 25 wins in 2019-20. The Chants hit 240 3-pointers throughout the campaign, a new program record.
  • Leading the 3-point charge last season was Kristin Williams, who led the Sun Belt with 82 made 3-pointers. Williams was named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team. 
  • After finishing fourth in the Sun Belt last season, the Chants were picked sixth in the preseason coaches poll, their highest preseason ranking since 2020.
  • The Chanticleers welcome 10 new players to the team in 2025-26, with three freshmen and seven transfers.
 
ABOUT THE BOBCATS
  • Lees-McRae will open their season against Coastal under second-year head coach Lauren Galvani. 
  • The Bobcats finished 7-18 and 5-15 in Conference Carolinas last season .
  • The leading returner is junior guard Nadiya Hairson, who ranked second on the team last year with 11 points per game through 25 contests.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Chants will be meeting the Bobcats for the second time.
  • Coastal won 73-47 on Nov. 10, 2017 at the HTC Center. DJ Williams finished as the leading scorer with 22.
 
NEW NAMES, BIG IMPACTS
  • Making their Coastal Carolina debuts. Tessa Grady and Tateyoina Harris emerged as impact players for the Chants in the opener against Miami (OH).
  • Grady led the team in scoring and hit some key shots down the stretch, finishing with 13 points while adding a pair of steals. 
  • Harris grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds with seven being offensive in her debut.
 
COASTAL CHAOS
  • Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term "Coastal Chaos" prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable. 
  • The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
