Women’s Basketball Explodes for 111 Points in Blowout Victory over Lees-McRae

CONWAY – Coastal Carolina women's basketball grabbed their first win of the season by clearing Lees-McRae 111-53 on Sunday afternoon at the HTC Center.

The Chants improved to 1-2 with the victory.

COASTAL LEADERS
Tessa Grady completed a career day with a career-high 23 points while going 8-14 from the field and 5-11 from beyond the three-point line to go along with two made free throws. For the second time in three games, Tateyoina Harris paced the Chants on the boards with 12 rebounds.  

GAME RECAP
The Chants scored the first nine points of the game to take an early advantage with the help of two made three-pointers by Grady. The Bobcats battled back to cut the deficit to 19-13 with 2:27 left, but Coastal would close on an 8-2 run to end the first period with a 27-15 lead.

Kinsea Grimes sparked the Chanticleer offense at the beginning of the second quarter by hitting three consecutive three-point shots to stretch the lead to 33. Grimes scored 11 points in the quarter and Coastal outscored the Bobcats 31-8 to take a 58-23 lead into halftime.

Coastal continued the offensive domination by outscoring Lees-McRae 53-30 across the final two quarters to complete their first victory of the season.

TEAM STATS
Coastal shot 53 percent from the field, going 35-66. The Chants were hot from the three-point line, going 16-32. Coastal won the rebounding battle 46-34 while forcing 22 turnovers, turning those into 26 points.

The 111 points scored is the most since Dec. 7, 2021 in a 116-point performance against Wesleyan.

Coastal heads to UNCW on Wednesday, Nov. 12 for a 7 p.m. tip-off against the Seahawks.
