NEW ORLEANS (sunbeltsports.org) – Coastal Carolina junior guard A.J. Dancler has been named Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after posting a double-double in a non-conference road victory over Saint Joseph's.
Dancler becomes the first Coastal Carolina men's basketball player to earn the Sun Belt's top weekly honor since Josh Uduje on Jan. 24, 2023.
Dancler led Coastal Carolina to a 68-62 road win over the Hawks in Philadelphia on Dec. 22 in its lone game of the week. The Indianapolis, Ind., native recorded his second double-double of the season with 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to go with four assists and just one turnover, as he shot 7-of-14 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers while sinking 5-of-7 free throw attempts.
Late in the contest, Dancler scored eight of the Chants' final nine points during the final 3:32, making five free throws and his only field goal attempt which was a 3-pointer that gave Coastal a 62-55 lead. The performance marked Dancler's second 20-point game and second double-digit rebounding effort of the season.
