Women's Basketball Set for Weekend Battle with Jacksonville

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's basketball heads to Florida for a road contest with Jacksonville on Saturday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+ as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network.

ABOUT THE CHANTS
  • As of Dec. 3, the Chanticleers stand at 95th in the NCAA WBB NET rankings, listed as the third-best team in the Sun Belt. 
  • Through the first nine games, the Chants have scored 100+ points in three contests, setting a new single-season program record.   
  • The Chanticleers won their third game in a row by beating Gardner-Webb 108-57 on Sunday afternoon.
  • The Chants scored 40 points in the third quarter, the most in a quarter in program history. 
  • As a team, Coastal shot 58% from the field and 52% from three.
  • Kinsea Grimes led all scorers with 25 points while collecting 11 rebounds. Tracey Hueston also posted a double-double, with 23 points and 12 rebounds. 
  • Tessa Grady leads the team in scoring with 14.2 points per game. 

ABOUT THE DOLPHINS
  • The Dolphins are currently 6-1 this season and 4-0 at home.
  • Jacksonville grabbed their first power conference win since 2021 by beating Georgia Tech 69-64 on Nov. 16.
  • Jacksonville is coming off a 70-63 win over Florida A&M on Tuesday. 
  • Priscilla Williams leads the team with 11.7 points per game. 
  • Special Jennings is in her third year as the head coach of the Dolphins, going 14-17 last season

SERIES HISTORY
  • Coastal will be meeting Jacksonville for the 3rd time, with the series tied 1-1. 
  • The last meeting was Nov. 22, 2008, where Coastal won 63-44 in Conway. 

TESSA TURNS IT UP
  • In her first nine games for Coastal, junior forward Tessa Grady has emerged as the team's leading scorer, averaging 14.2 points per game.
  • Grady led the team in scoring against Miami (OH) with 13 and Lees-McRae with a career-high 23. 
  • She matched her career-high in the next game, scoring 23 more against UNCW.
  • Grady poured in 22 points against #16 NC State, going 8-17 from the field and 5-11 from three
  • The Wisconsin transfer has started her season shooting 42% from the field and 37% from three.
  • Currently, Grady ranks 5th in the country with 29 three-pointers made in nine games.

THREE-POINT PARTY
  • Currently, Coastal ranks 13th in the country with 13 made three-pointers per game.
  • The Chants are also rank 28th in the country with 26.9 three-point attempts per contest.
  • Both Tessa Grady and Kristin Williams rank in the top-11 for made three-pointers, with Grady tied for fifth (29) and Williams tied for 11th (26).

COASTAL CHAOS
  • Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term "Coastal Chaos" prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable. 
  • The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
  • This season, Coastal ranks 20th in the country with 23.6 turnovers forced per game, and is tied for 57th with a turnover margin of 5.3.
