CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina baseball used a five-run seventh inning to surge past UNCW for a 6-1 victory Tuesday night at Springs Brooks Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the seventh, the Chanticleers (7-2) capitalized on a throwing error and a bases-loaded walk before
Colby Thorndyke delivered a two-run double to give Coastal the lead. A fielding error allowed another run to cross, capping the big inning.
Ty Dooley added an RBI single in the eighth to pad the lead.
Dean Mihos led the Chanticleers at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while
Wells Sykes added three hits, including a double.
Matthew Potok (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings. Starter
Jacob Morrison allowed one run over five innings, striking out six.
UNCW (5-4) scored its lone run in the second on a Trevor Lucas RBI double but managed just five hits on the night.
