TROY, Ala. – The Coastal Carolina softball team's nine-game win streak was snapped by Troy on Saturday morning, as the Chanticleers suffered a 12-4 run-rule defeat, tying the series at one game apiece in Troy, Ala.
The Trojans capitalized on errant Coastal pitching in the bottom of the first inning, scoring seven runs on four walks, a hit-by-pitch, a fielder's choice, and a single.
The Chanticleers led off the top of the second inning with back-to-back singles from
McKennah Metzger and
Brie Normandin. A throwing error by Troy allowed both runners to score, putting Coastal on the board at 7-2.
Troy extended its lead in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single from Taylor McKinney and a groundout, making it 9-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Trojans continued to add to their lead, scoring on two RBI singles to push the score to 12-2.
Coastal managed to scrape back two runs on a double play and a fielding error, but it wasn't enough to prolong the game, as the run-rule was enforced at 12-4.
The Chanticleers will return to the field Sunday at 12:30 p.m. for the series-deciding matchup.
