GREENVILLE, N.C. — Saturday, it was
Cameron Flukey's turn.
A day after the No. 24 Coastal Carolina baseball team was shut out by a dominant ECU pitching performance, it was the Chanticleers turn as Flukey stymied the Pirates with a gem of his own in a 9-1 win at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
Flukey tossed seven scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out five.
Oliver Ellison worked the final two frames, surrendering one run on two hits while striking out three.
The Chanticleers (11-4) erupted for five runs in the second inning and never looked back, pounding out 11 hits, led by
Blake Barthol and
Ty Dooley, who both homered and combined for five RBIs. Coastal struck early, with Dooley launching a two-run homer and Barthol following with a two-run shot of his own to cap a five-run second inning.
Coastal added runs in the fourth and sixth innings before tacking on two more in the ninth to put the game out of reach. Dooley finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Barthol added three RBIs and a double.
Caden Bodine contributed two hits and drove in a pair.
East Carolina (7-7) managed just six hits, with Colby Wallace collecting two. The Pirates' lone run came in the eighth inning when Wallace scored on a wild pitch.
Sean Jenkins (1-1) took the loss for ECU, allowing five runs on five hits over two innings.
The rubber match of the series is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. Tune into the Chanticleer Sports Network and ESPN+ for full coverage.
