GREENVILLE, N.C. — No. 24 Coastal Carolina secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over East Carolina in 10 innings on Sunday at Clark-LeClair Stadium, clinching the weekend series.
Blagen Pado delivered the decisive blow for the Chanticleers (12-4) in the top of the 10th inning, launching a solo home run to left field—his first of the season.
Dominick Carbone then shut the door in the bottom half, recording the final out to earn his first save of the year.
Coastal trailed 3-2 entering the ninth before tying the game on
Walker Mitchell's RBI double. The Pirates (7-8) had rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but Coastal's bullpen held firm in extra innings.
Jacob Morrison (2-0) picked up the win after working one inning in relief. The Chants' pitching staff scattered 13 hits but limited the Pirates to just three runs, stranding 14 ECU baserunners.
Offensively, Coastal collected nine hits, with
Blake Barthol reaching base four times and driving in a run. Mitchell and
Jake Books each had two hits, while
Colby Thorndyke scored a run and reached base twice.
