CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped a midweek matchup to the College of Charleston Cougars, 4-2, on Tuesday evening in Charleston, S.C.
After three scoreless innings, the Chanticleers broke the silence when
Georgia Hood laced a leadoff triple to right-center field, and
Keirstin Roose drove her home on a sacrifice fly to give Coastal a 1-0 lead.
Coastal extended its advantage to 2-0 in the top of the fifth inning when
Clara Hudgens reached first on a bunt single and came all the way around to score on a College of Charleston fielding error.
The Cougars mounted a late comeback in the bottom of the sixth when Jenna Miller drove in a run with an RBI single, and Kate Rhue followed with a bases-clearing three-run double to secure the 4-2 victory.
Nicolette Picone (16-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs on five hits over six innings.
The Chanticleers will remain on the road for a three-game series against Georgia Southern from April 4-6 in Statesboro, Ga.
