No. 21 Baseball Sweeps Georgia State In Atlanta
4/13/2025 6:11:00 PM | Baseball
ATLANTA — No. 21 Coastal Carolina used timely hitting and a strong start from right-hander Luke Jones to cap a weekend sweep with a 4-2 win over Georgia State on Sunday at the GSU Baseball Complex.
Jones (2-1) turned in his best outing of the year, scattering three hits across six shutout innings while striking out six and walking two.
The Chanticleers (27-9, 11-4 Sun Belt) backed him with a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings and held off a late push from the Panthers (22-16, 8-7) to complete their second Sun Belt road sweep of the season.
Blake Barthol belted a solo homer in the fifth — his seventh of the season — and Caden Bodine and Dean Mihos each drove in a run as part of a nine-hit Coastal attack. Chad Born had two hits and reached base three times, helping set up a two-run eighth inning that pushed the Chanticleer lead to 4-0.
After Georgia State got on the board in the eighth with a solo homer from Kaleb Freeman and added a run in the ninth, Ryan Lynch entered from the bullpen to record the final three outs and earn his second save.
